WE CONTROL THE QUEUE - AUTOMATED

The automation of the queueing process leads to improved effciency and service quality. Both are achievable with our Queue Control solution which is centred around our Smart Gate
– a revolving door that can change the queue layout automatically.

Sensors measure the passenger fow and trigger the Smart Gates to select the optimum walkways – longer versus shorter routes depending on the filling level of the queue. This means passengers do not have to walk any longer than is necessary and no staff arer equired to manually open and close belts to control the flow. Additionally, the change of the queue layout is standardised in terms of position and filling level.

Alternatively, the Smart Gates can also be triggered by a remote control, which allows for a semi-automated queue. As well as changing the queue layout the Smart Gates can also be used for balancing passengers between sub-areas of the queue or for controlling the access to a queue. With these proven solutions the queuing process is promoted to a professional, automated process which can be compared to logistic processes for checked baggage.

AUTOMATION

The Smart Gate is a revolving gate that consists of one or more polycarbonate plates that rotate round a Beltrac post. The  positions for the gate can be programmed anywhere within 360° of a circle, so that passengers are guided in the right directions.

The gate turns with a maximum speed of 2 seconds for 90° and is either powered with a rechargeable battery or with permanent power.

It is placed in the queue where normally belts are opened for shortcuts or closed for by-passes. Sensors in the queue identify the passenger flow and calculate the best walkway for the current flow, triggering the Smart Gates via radio - as short as possible, as long as necessary.

Existing third-party sensors or a sensor from the Via Guide portfolio can be used for this application. Optional visual measures like foils on the gate and the floor, monitors, or traffic lights improve the visibility and effectiveness of the Smart Gates to passengers.

When using a semi-automated solution the change of layouts can be triggered from remote, so that staff do not have to enter the
queue to change the layout.

As part of an access control system, the Smart Gate can be triggered by any ID card reader or other access control system.

BELTRAC INTEGRATION
The Smart Gate fully integrates to the other products of Via Guide’s Beltrac line. The gear for the Smart Gate is built into a Beltrac post which is fixed with the magnetic base to the metal plate and then to the floor, guaranteeing sturdiness.

Similar to a regular belt post the Smart Gate can be the receiving end for Beltrac belts.

GEAR
The gear turns the blades in both directions to any predfined position and has no physical stop. It has an overload release to guarantee security and an integrated position control. The speed for a position change of 90 degrees is only 2 seconds, and lights and sound can be used to warn passengers when the gate is changing position.

BLADES
The blades are made of acrylic glass. The design can be completely customized to meet corporate design or to improve the passenger flow with arrows and/or stop signs.

POWER
The Smart Gate is either powered with our internal rechargeable battery (+3.6 V / 160 Wh) or with permanent power. The typical battery runtime is approx. 3,600 rotation cycles.

TRIGGER
The change of the position of the blades is triggered by a manual remote control, through sensors or through an access control system. The Smart Gate itself can be equipped with an internal people detection sensor in order to improve the security.

INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS
In combination with Via Guide’s other Passenger Flow solutions such as magnetic Beltrac posts, Nextrac panels at the queue perimeter, and the information system, it’s possible to create a maintenance free, highly efficient queuing area.

The Smart Gates are positioned within the queue at decision points where normally belts are opened or closed in order to change the direction for passengers. The Smart Gate is programmed for the required positions – long vs. short or open vs. closed.

Depending in the required process and the available hardware, the Smart Gates are triggered manually with a remote control or through people detection systems.

With this improved decision making you can also balance passengers from one part of the queue to another by using the  Smart Gates. In order to optimise the queues it might be necessary to gain additional information from the service points.
